"Most banks will have fraud protection or something along those lines on their websites." So in other words, if you get a call or if you get an email that looks suspicious, don't respond. "If something doesn't seem right, resist. So the best things for holiday shoppers to do are to be aware, and educate themselves as to the different types of scams out there.įor example, Mangini said if a person gets an email from their bank saying they've won a prize, but asking for an odd form of payment or the purchase of a gift card to claim it, that's a red flag.Īnd whether someone falls victim to a scam or quickly gets wise to it, the advice is the same: Report it right away.
